Construction of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $60mn Hotel Back Underway

Latest News

Construction work is back underway for Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $60 million Landing Hotel after a 15-month pandemic-forced hiatus, property management announced this week.

Groundbreaking for the new facility was held in August 2019 and it was expected to open doors in early 2021. However, the project has been delayed for various reasons, most notably due to the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 that literally put on halt all non-essential operations across Pennsylvania, the US, and the rest of the world.

The project is now up and running again and cranes from contractor Massaro Construction are understood to have returned back to the site earlier this week. Massaro told local news outlets that steel framing for the future hotel is expected to begin in the next few days.

Rush Street Gaming, owner of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, first revealed plans to add a hotel companion for the gambling venue on the North Shore back in 2017. However, the casino operator decided to postpone the start of construction and wait for the right time.

Property officials said back then that “Rush Street always envisioned a hotel for Rivers to create a full-service destination on the North Shore” and that they saw the move as “a natural evolution.”

The Project

The new Landing Hotel would be a seven-story building with 219 guest rooms. It would connect to the existing Rivers Casino via the latter’s east facade, facing the Carnegie Science Center. There will be 10 luxury terrace suites with private patios.

The hotel is set to generate 128 permanent jobs once operational and 1,400 temporary jobs during construction.

After the 15-month construction delay, the new hospitality facility is expected to open doors for guests at some point in 2022.

Commenting on construction resuming at the hotel site, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh Assistant General Manager Bud Green said that they are excited to get back to work on the new facility and that they are eager to finally add this new hospitality venue to their existing offering.

Massaro Group President Steve Massaro added that they are very proud to be part of the city’s economic reboot and that the Landing Hotel will be a “perfect complement to Rivers Casino and a welcome new addition to Pittsburgh’s skyline.”

This will be the second Landing-branded hotel to open at a Rush Street casino property. In 2017, the company debuted The Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady in Upstate New York.

The new Pittsburgh hotel was designed by VOA, with Klai Juba Wald serving as the executive architect for the facility and related renovations. The Pittsburgh office of Strada was tasked with planning and landscape design.
