Betting on Sports in Louisiana Signed into Law

Industry

Last week we reported that betting on sports in Louisiana needed only the governor’s signature to become law. That signature came this week.

Governor John Bel Edwards actually signed a pair of bills, with the first bill regulates sports bets. The second one provides guidance for the use of the funds generated from sports bets placed in the state.

The process of legalizing betting on sporting events was relatively simple and quick, as politics go. Voters in the state approved sports wagering in November of last year, just seven short months ago.

Sports bets will now be allowed in 55 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes, with land based casinos acting as a sort of “home base” of regulation. People living in parishes where sports gambling is legal can also play online and mobile.
