Christmas Gambling News from Vegas and Florida!

Industry

It’s our last show of the year, filled with holiday gambling news! We have a Coronavirus update from Las Vegas, as well as a sports betting update from Florida and a disturbing report on problem gambling!Plus, there’s a special Christmas introduction!

T’was two weeks till Christmas down Florida way, where the Seminoles were not feeling so festive as their sports betting deal with the state has been ruled unconstitutional. However, undeterred the Seminoles just kept right on accepting sports bets… until… Down at the courthouse there arose such a clatter, when a Federal Judge denied their request for a stay on this matter! Pending an appeal.

So for now, quite literally, the biggest gambling news is that all bets are off in Florida! Well, sports bets are off… pending the results of that appeal, of course. And while visions of sugar plums dance through the Seminoles heads, and they wait for their appeal to be heard, other companies are starting to line up to get a piece of that Florida sports betting action! And just who are these other companies? On DraftKings! On FanDuel! On Sands Corporation! All pushing forward with their sports betting petition! A petition to put this issue on the ballot before voters and add a constitutional amendment for sports betting! Oh, and end any hopes the Seminoles may have had about a Florida sports betting monopoly.

Meanwhile in other gambling news, the state of Nevada is extending their mandatory mask mandate for casinos, bars, taverns, hotels, strip clubs, etc. etc. Nothing’s really changing. They’re just, you know, extending it. Because in the winter months, holiday cheer ain’t the only thing that’s spreading, if you know what I mean. The Omicron variant of the Coronavirus has the governor concerned, so he simply, you know, extended the mask mandate until the rate of infection in Nevada is “low”. And what exactly is “low”?

Before we take our Christmas break, we have two new game reviews to share with you this week. First up, it’s the Yak Yeti and Roll online slot, which comes with five cascading reels, three rows, and 20 paylines! There are Wild and Scatter symbols, a Bonus Round and Bonus Spins, plus a Gamble Feature! Next is the Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special from Quickspin! Based on the classic original game, this slot comes with five cascading reels, 25 paylines, and a proven math model. Both reviews and hundreds more are available right now on our YouTube channel.

And the final gambling news for this week finds the people who run the Gambless problem gambling mobile app have just released a new report which says that people who speak English are more likely to suffer from problem gambling, to the tune of about 60%! Fortunately, this means people in New Jersey have nothing to worry about! Of course, if you look at the people who use the Gambless mobile app, and who consequently participated in their little report, you’ll notice that 25% of them are from the United Kingdom, about 20% are from America, 10% from Australia, and about 5% are Canadian. You add all that up and… well, well, well! You get about 60%! So do we call this confirmation bias? Or just good old-fashioned stupidity?
