New York Mobile Betting Ready for January Launch

The State Gaming Commission has finally approved the rules for New York mobile betting. And according to one State Senator, bets could be taken as soon as the middle of next month. However, before any bets can be placed, there is an important process to be worked out. That is, the location of the servers which will accept the bets, which must be placed within one of the licensed land-based casinos.

State Senator Joseph Addabbo had high praise for the Commission, as the hope had been to accept bets in time for the Super Bowl in February. From all indications, they are well ahead of schedule at this point. Many of you know about the unusually high tax rate to be imposed on New York mobile betting, which is set at 51%. However, there is also a licensing fee of $25 million just to get your foot in the door.

Additionally, Senator Addabbo also set forth another bill to allow sports betting at racetracks and stadiums via self-service kiosks. Commenting on the issue, the Senator stated that he loos forward to “…getting this anticipated operation off the ground and bringing New York successfully into the mobile sports betting arena.”
