The Malta Gaming Authority has published its latest list of brigand operators displaying the MGA seal or claiming they are licensed by the authority without authorization. Only licensed operators and providers may display the MGA seal or claim they are licensed.
Those claiming to be in compliance with Maltese regulatory law are in violation of Article 13 of the Gaming Act (Chapter 583 of the Laws of Malta).
The Authority makes periodic announcements to name and shame operators that claim to be in compliance when they are not. Any site that would do that would most likely not think twice about breaking the gambling contract with its players.
While the list is region specific – it only refers to entities allowed to provide services to the residents of Malta, the same licenses apply to the greater market under Malta’s authority.
Unlicensed Entities Present Risks to Consumers
“The MGA would like to remind consumers not to utilize services provided by an entity unless they have ascertained that the entity in question is authorized to provide such services by the MGA,” the statement said. “The gaming regulatory framework obliges authorized persons to comply with strict legal requirements in the interest of consumers. The activities of unlicensed entities are unregulated and do not provide the necessary safeguards delineated by virtue of the framework, making transactions with such entities risky for consumers.”
About a month ago, the MGA published its Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ending December 31, 2021. In it were incidences of unlicensed operators and other enforcement matters. While there were no license suspensions for the calendar year, there was stepped-up “administrative” management of operators and seven licenses were canceled outright.
MGA Chair, Dr. Ryan C. Pace said in the earlier report: “Looking back at my first full year as Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the MGA, I am encouraged by the progress the Authority and the Board have made in 2021. We have worked tirelessly to perpetuate the vision of the MGA becoming a world-class gaming authority, implementing best practices, and effectively regulate a thriving gaming sector in a manner that supports the evolution of the sector.”
