Nevada Gaming Revenue Has Best January Ever

In the middle of a record breaking run, Nevada gaming continues to reel in huge profits. During the first month of 2024, state revenue from casinos was up nearly one percent and brought in $1.28 billion. And while that’s the biggest total ever for January, it was still far behind December’s totals of $1.43 billion.

Nevada gaming revenue from slot machines totaled $885.9 million for the month, which was a a 1.3% increase compared to the previous year. Multi-denomination slots contributed $567.2 million to this total, while penny slots generated $231.1 million in revenue. However, revenue from table, counter, and card games experienced a decline of 7.5% to $393.5 million during the same period.

Despite that overall decline, blackjack remained the primary revenue source, though it experienced an 18.2% decrease to $98.3 million. Craps revenue fell by 19.4% to $32.0 million, and roulette revenue dropped by 40.7% to $27.4 million. Baccarat was one of the few areas within this segment to see growth, with revenue increasing by 8.0% to $98.0 million.

Additionally, Pai Gow poker revenue surged by 125.5% adding $11.2 million to the Nevada gaming revenue totals. Sports betting, included in the table, counter, and card games category, was the only other area to report growth in January. Sports pool revenue increased by 28.4% to $64.7 million for the month, with $30.1 million attributed to mobile betting in Nevada.

On the famous Las Vegas Strip, revenue was down by 3.8% year-on-year, totaling $686.2 million. Slot machine revenue on the Strip saw a slight increase of 3.1% to $400.8 million, while revenue from table, counter, and card games declined by 12.1% to $285.4 million. In terms of sports betting, revenue from sports pool wagering on the Strip surged by 35.4% which generated another $28.5 million for Nevada gaming.
