Poker’s Superstars Set to Descend on Montenegro for the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series

Poker News

The Maestral Resort & Casino in Budva, Montenegro, may not be a poker venue that you are familiar with, but that is set to change because the Triton Poker High Roller Series is heading there from May 12 through May 26 for the latest stop of it 2024 tour.

With the “cheapest” event costing $26,150 and the most expensive tipping the scales at $132,500, the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro stop is not for the faint-hearted, so expect some of the world’s best poker players and richest businesspeople to go to battle in the Balkans, with PokerNews bringing you recaps of the action.

The action kicks off on May 12 with Day 1 of the $26,150 No-Limit Hold’em GGMillion$ Live 8-Handed event. When this event was part of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju in March 2024, it saw a total of 305 entries (including re-entries), a $7,625,000 prize pool, and a $1,191,196 score for Mario Mosböck who defeated Sergio Aido heads-up after the pair struck a deal.

Other events to look forward to in Montenegro include the $53,000 No-Limit Hold’em Bounty Quattro, which Dan Smith won for a combined $1,251,000 in Jeju, a $106,000 No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed event, and a $132,500 Triton Main Event.

The Jeju Main Event commanded a $106,000 buy-in, which 216 players paid. Czech star Roman Hrabec came out on top, defeating Jean-Noel Thorel heads-up and securing a career-best $4,330,000 payday.

Fans of high-stakes Pot-Limit Omaha are in for a treat because the final three days of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro festival are dedicated to PLO, including one with a $52,000 buy-in.

As you can see from the schedule below, there are no Short Deck Hold’em events planned in Montenegro. Short Deck, or 6+ Hold’em, has proven popular with Triton Poker players, so its omission seems a little strange. Perhaps more will be explained during the festival’s live streams, which you can catch via the Triton Poker website throughout the festival.

Who Will Play at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro Festival?

Jason Koon
Jason Koon crushes Triton Poker events

We will have to wait and see which poker superstars head to Montenegro for the final stop of Season 3, but it is safe to make a few predictions. Jason Koon loves playing Triton events, and is the player with the most cashes since the tour’s inception. Koon is only four in-the-money finishes away from cashing 50 times on this Super High Roller circuit.

Other Triton regulars include Isaac Haxton, Stephen Chidwick, co-founder Paul Phua, and Canada’s Daniel Dvoress. Also expect to see the likes of Daniel Tang, Mikita Badziakouski, Timothy Adams, Dan Smith, and Steve O’Dwyer, and don’t be surprised to see appearances from Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey who both graced the recent PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo festival with their presence.
