Nicolo Molinelli wins People’s Choice Event of WSOP Online

Casino News

The WSOP Online Series via GGPoker is seemingly never-ending. The series began back in mid-July and is still going strong, though it is about to finish up. The most recent event to finish up is #81, the People’s Choice Event (Spin the Wheel). This event had almost $2 million in total prize money on offer and 1,925 players decided to compete. In the end, it was Nicolo Molinelli who earned the first-place finish, taking home $243,415 for the win with $100,000 coming from bounties

Interesting Format

The format of the online poker event was interesting, certainly something different for players to enjoy. The tournament did not have a preset format but used a prize wheel to determine how the game would go forward. The event ended up finishing as a 6-Handed No Limit Hold’em Bounty and had a buy-in of $1,050.

Big pros were in on the action, including GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu. The pro was unable to move forward and was knocked out before the last few stages began. Once the final table was set with nine players, a few players exited early including Michelle Shah going first, followed by Pavel Plesuv and Lucas Hafner.

Eventually, the table would be narrowed down to only Molinelli and Kyle Menard. Both would duke it out for over an hour before the winner was named.

Heads Up Round

Molinelli would have the larger chip stack as Menard was the short stack going into heads up play. Though he was down, Menard was not giving up. He fought back and chipped away to even the chip stacks but Molinelli would come back on top before the final hand went down.

In the end, Molinelli won with K-8 as it defeated the A-Q of his competitor.
