Louisiana Fantasy Sports Still Creeping Forward

It’s been over two years since Louisiana fantasy sports betting was approved. In the time since then, state lawmakers have set the tax rates and the regulatory process. Now, it’s time to start approving operators.

A vote last week began that process. Operators of fantasy sports contests will have to be licensed by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. Anybody will be able to log into the online sites if they travel to one of the parishes which regulate the activity.

Of the 64 parishes in the state, 47 approved fantasy sports. Residents who want to participate in the competitions have to reside in one of those parishes and be at least 21 years old. Also, the fantasy teams can not involve participants in high school or youth sports events.
