Industry

With the new Michigan online gambling industry off and running, some players may experience unexpected issues if they want to use a debit or credit card to fund their hobby.

Some card issuers are telling their customers that they will not allow the transactions, and that is causing tension within the industry. Even though the use of credit and debit cards is not officially restricted in the state, some gaming operators and banks are choosing to exclude this as a deposit option.

A spokesman with the Michigan Gaming Control Board said there are several reasons to block these cards for online gambling. For starters, it’s a new  industry so businesses, regulators, and policy makers are still sorting out the details.

The consensus is that it will be at least six months before the industry reaches any agreement on how to handle the credit and debit cards.
