Massachusetts and Maryland Sports Betting Update

Industry

Gambling expansion continues across America with a Maryland sports betting bill that was signed into law by the Governor just this week. The state is now free to issue up to 60 licenses.

In addition to land based betting on sports,  the state will also issue mobile sports betting license. Operators will be required to pay a 15% tax on revenue. Maryland sports betting was previously approved by voters who backed the measure in a referendum.

Meanwhile in Massachusetts, state senators approved sports betting legislation which they included in their $47.6 billion budget. The situation is still a bit confusing, as two State Senators filed competing bills to regulate the activity. Plus, over a dozen lawmakers have also filed sports wagering bills.

Sadly, politicians in House may have killed the notion of regulated sports betting when they did not include the activity in their budget. You can read more about Maryland sports betting at the Baltimore Sun, while details about sports betting in Massachusetts can be read at Yogo Net.
