US State of Maryland’s casinos reel in $161.5M in June

Casino News

Maryland casinos continued to see gains in June as the last of the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.

The state’s six casinos collectively generated $161.5 million last month, a 13% increase compared with June 2019. Maryland Lottery and Gaming, which tracks the monthly casino statistics, did not make any comparisons to June 2020, when casinos were closed for the majority of the month due to the pandemic.

Statewide, mask mandates and social distancing guidelines are now gone, as are the capacity limits that capped the number of guests each casino could accommodate throughout much of the pandemic. After months of shutdowns and restrictions in 2020, casinos began a rebound this spring, recording a new revenue high in May as well as growth in March and April.

Five of Maryland’s six casinos reported individual growth compared to 2019, the last full year without any industry-wide disruptions. Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino, meanwhile, once again reported a decline compared with 2019.

Here are the June 2021 numbers:

  • MGM National Harbor: $63.7 million in revenue, a 12% increase compared to June 2019
  • Live Casino & Hotel: $58.5 million, a 19.4% increase
  • Horseshoe Casino: $17 million, an 8.9% decrease
  • Ocean Downs Casino: $8.8 million, a 29% increase
  • Hollywood Casino: $7.7 million, a 21.1% increase
  • Rocky Gap Casino: $5.8 million, a 12.5% increase
