2021 WSOP Day 14: Vanessa Kade Racks Up Fifth Cash of the Series

The 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) reached the two-week stage on October 13 and celebrated with seven events spread across the three cavernous rooms of the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Daniel Lazrus took down the $1,500 Millionaire Maker for $1,000,000 while Ryan Leng became a three-time WSOP champion when he emerged victoriously from the $1,500 Eight Game Mix 6-Handed event.

There was also a bracelet for Michael Prendergast who is grinding at his first-ever WSOP. Prendergast won the $600 Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack to all but ensure a profitable debut series.

Elsewhere, Vanessa Kade progressed to yet another Day 2 while Adam Owen, Maurice Hawkins, and Mikiyo Aoki put themselves in great positions to win some poker gold.

Negreanu Slips Up But Still Punches Day 2 Ticket; Kade Cruises Through Again

Vanessa Kade navigated her way through the shark-infested Day 1 field in Event #25: $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em and finished the night by cramming 982,000 chips into her overnight bag. This is Kade’s fifth cash of the 2021 WSOP having finished in the money in events #9, #10, #15, and #17 prior to this tournament. Kade is guaranteed $15,200, her largest prize of the series so far, but certainly has one eye on the $562,667 top prize and that all-important bracelet.

Daniel Negreanu was flying high with 2,200,000 chips at one stage, which would have been enough for the overnight chip lead. However, Anthony Spinella doubled through the GGPoker Ambassador, who then saw his grip on the lead slacken in the latter levels of the evening. Negreanu bagged up 773,000 chips at the close of play, which keeps him in the hunt for his elusive seventh WSOP bracelet.

John Racener finished Day 1 of this event with the overall chip lead. The 2010 Main Event runner-up couldn’t quite break through the two million chip barrier, but will be happy with how his day went.

Hot on Racener’s heels are the likes of Scott Ball (1,940,000), Jonathan Jaffe (1,900,000), and Craig Mason (1,860,000).

Others to look out for in the final 31 include Ben Yu (1,493,000), Yuri Dzivielevski (1,211,000), Frank Kassela (755,000), and Nick Petrangelo (600,000).

Mikiyo Aoki On Course To Make Amends For 2014 Runner-Up Finish

Only five players remain in Event #22: Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship and all eyes are on the chip leader Mikiyo Aoki (4,880,000). Aoki fell at the final hurdle in this tournament in 2014, losing heads-up against Haixia Zhang. Now Aoki has a chance to redeem herself and finally get her hands on some poker gold.

Aoki holds the chip lead going into the final day’s action but she will be pushed all the way by four women who have reached this stage on merit.

Debora Brooke (4,280,000) is Aoki’s nearest rival in terms of chips, but Diane Cooley (1,265,000), Lara Eisenberg (1,200,000), and JJ Liu (1,250,000) will all have a say in where this tournament’s bracelet calls home.

Klump Leads the $1,000 Freezeout; Hawkins Lurking

Event #26: $1,000 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em started with 1,358 players but that large field was whittled down to only 38 players after the completion of twenty-two 30-minute levels.

Levi Klump secured the overnight chip lead courtesy of amassing 2,230,000 chips, the only player to finish with more than two million betting tokens. Should Klump build on his impressive start and go all the way in this event, he will secure his first WSOP bracelet and a career-best score of $199,227.

There are some very talented players among the 38 players who reached Day 2. Peter Chen, who recently secured his first gold bracelet, returns to the action with 920,000 chips and is just outside the top 10. Maurice Hawkins is lurking just behind Chen with 915,000 chips. Hawkins has a record 14 WSOP Circuit rings to his name, but no bracelet as yet. Will that change on October 14?

Dickstein Pips Owen To $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. Chip Lead

Mark Dickstein is the overnight chip leader in Event #27: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E after he finished Day 1 with 300,000 chips. Dickstein, who finished third in a $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event in 2006, went on a late surge to bag up more chips than the 207 surviving player.

Adam Owen, the British mixed game specialist, has done his chances of becoming a WSOP bracelet winner no harm at all. Owen, who has two WSOP Circuit rings, bagged and tagged 220,000 chips when play ended.

Dozens of mixed game specialists also punched their Day 2 tickets. Look out for such luminaries as Josh Arieh (171,000), John Monnette (162,500), Barry Greenstein (148,500), Max Pescatori (98,500), and Brian Hastings (98,000) in our live updates.

A certain Phil Hellmuth also made it through Day 1, doing so with 74,000 chips.
