More US Gaming Revenue Records

Our friends at the the American Gaming Association have released their latest report based on US gaming revenue. And according to their Revenue Tracker, a remarkable milestone was obtained during the first quarter of 2023. That’s when revenue reaching an unprecedented quarterly record of $16.60 billion.

This outstanding achievement marks the eighth consecutive quarter of breaking records for the gaming industry. The highlight of this quarter was the extraordinary month of March, which recorded the industry’s highest-ever earnings of $5.90 billion. This is all happening while Nevada and Las Vegas continue their run of billion dollar months.

Across the country, US gaming revenue did well over the first three months of the year. In fact, 18 of the 35 commercial gaming markets set new records for the quarter, with only the state of Mississippi trailing its quarterly revenue from this time last year.

Every other commercial gaming vertical saw quarterly revenue records in the first quarter of this year. Retail gaming accounted for over 75% of the totals, while online gaming represented its largest share ever at nearly 25%. The AGA released its annual State of the States report today, which provides the definitive state-by-state economic and regulatory analysis of US gaming revenue in 2022 for policymakers, gaming stakeholders and industry observers.

State of the States 2023 reveals that commercial gaming generated a record $13.48 billion in direct gaming tax revenue paid to state and local governments in 2022—up 15.3 percent from 2021. This does not include the billions more paid in income, sales or other taxes.
