Oklahoma: Indigo Sky Casino falls prey to data security breach, says no financial information was hacked

The Indigo Sky Casino and Resort in Tusla, Oklahoma, which recently got affected by a data security breach, is notifying individuals whose personal information may have been accessed in connection with a data security incident. The casino recently reported unusual activity on its computer network, and upon identifying the issue promptly began an internal investigation, took steps to secure its systems and notified law enforcement.

It also engaged a forensic security firm to investigate and confirm the security of its computer systems.

Tulsa World reported that on December 1st, third-party people got access to some documents from its system. According to the report, the documents may have contained employees’ personal information, including names, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, and medical information. 

Additionally, the documents could have contained some patrons’ names and Social Security and/or driver’s license numbers. The report said that the documents accessed by the hackers did not contain banking information or other financial information.

Following the incident, Indigo Sky said that on Wednesday the casino mailed notification letters to those individuals whose information may have been in the documents and for whom it had a valid mailing address. It is also offering them complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. 

The casino stated that individuals are receiving notifications in the mail regarding steps they can take to protect themselves.

Indigo Sky, in a press release, said: “As a precautionary measure, individuals should remain vigilant to protect against potential fraud and/or identity theft by, among other things, reviewing their account statements and monitoring credit reports closely.”

If individuals detect any suspicious activity on an account, they should promptly notify the financial institution or company with which the account is maintained and report any fraudulent activity or any suspected incidents of identity theft to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state’s attorney general.” 

Individuals can also access the tips provided by the Federal Trade Commission on fraud alerts, security/credit freezes and steps that they can take to avoid identity theft.

Indigo Sky Casino and Resort is located about 95 miles northeast of downtown Tulsa and just across the state line from Seneca, Missouri; Outpost Casino is located a few miles northwest of Seneca.
