Kansas achieves new monthly sports betting revenue record of $20.1 million in December

Kansas’ gaming industry experienced a groundbreaking month in December, setting a new record for sports wagering revenue at $20.1 million. This figure surpassed the previous record of $14.4 million in October by 39.6%. 

The December revenue also stood at 95.2% higher than the $10.3 million reported in December 2022 and 125.8% above the $8.9 million from November 2023. Online betting played a pivotal role in this success, contributing $19.2 million to the overall revenue, while retail wagering brought in an additional $808,961.

The total handle for December reached an impressive $259.7 million, marking a 40.4% increase year-on-year. However, it fell slightly short of November’s all-time high handle of $260.9 million

Breaking down the numbers, online bets accounted for $249.1 million in December, with retail sportsbooks across Kansas witnessing $10.6 million in wagers.

In the online market, Boot Hill Casino and DraftKings maintained their lead, with their partnership generating $8.5 million in revenue from a handle of $103.8 million. Kansas Star and FanDuel secured the second spot with $7.2 million from an $86.5 million handle, while Kansas Crossing and BetMGM followed with $3.0 million from $22.6 million.

Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway continued its dominance in the retail segment, leading with $545,035 in revenue and a handle of $7.8 million. Kansas Star and FanDuel secured the second position in retail, with revenue at Kansas Star reaching $208,110 and a handle of $1.8 million.

Boot Hill and DraftKings claimed the third spot with $42,507 in revenue from a handle of $417,104.

Kansas collected $2.0 million in sports betting taxes during December, with $1.9 million coming from online betting and $80,895 from retail. For the fiscal year to date, the total handle surpassed $1.16 billion, including $1.11 billion from online and $52.9 million from retail.

Total revenue for the fiscal year amounted to $63.1 million, with online betting contributing $59.3 million and retail wagering $3.8 million. Tax collections for the fiscal year reached $6.3 million.
