The Govt. announced new restrictions for non-essential business ahead of the festive period

T

he Netherlands on Tuesday entered its strictest lockdown yet, which will last until at least 19 January, 2021. All casinos will remain closed throughout that period.

On Monday, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced that venues such as casinos, museums, theatres, amusement parks, cinemas, zoos, saunas, indoor sporting venues, and establishments serving food and drink (including in hotels) will be closed from 15 December to 19 January inclusive. The new restrictions come ahead of the festive period. Rutte said November’s lockdown, which included casinos too, failed to reduce Covid-19 cases.

State-owned casino operator Holland Casinos has closed all of its 14 properties across the country, marking the third time it was forced to do so this year due to the pandemic.

On 12 January the government will provide information about the period after 19 January.
